Kong Hee: Need for greater accountability in operations of City Harvest Church

According to a Yahoo news report yesterday, City Harvest Church (CHC) will be setting up an independent advisory committee to ensure greater accountability and transparency in its governance.

Senior Pastor Kong Hee made the announcement during four services on 25 and 26 September, said City News Weekly, a Christian publication distributed in CHC.

“If there is anything I’ve learned through the process of this investigation, it is the need for a greater level of accountability and governance in the operations of City Harvest Church,” Pastor Kong said.

The committee will be chaired by a former Wall Street banker A R Bernard.

Pastor Kong, his wife pop singer Sun Ho and other members of CHC was hauled for investigations by the police following complaints made to the Commissioner of Charities on the misuse of church funds.

The investigation is currently ongoing. Pastor Kong has since resumed his usual preaching services at CHC.

Founded in 1987 by Pastor Kong, City Harvest Church has grown over the years to become the biggest mega-church in Singapore with a congregation exceeding 33,000.
